The Hungarian Yellow Wax Pepper has a waxy appearance and is usually harvested before maturity when still yellow. It measures between 4 inches - 6 inches in length and tapers to a rounded point. The pods turn from a yellow (unripe) to an orange-red or red color. The heat levels increase as the pods mature. Although similar in appearance to banana peppers when immature, it is a different cultivar and a bit hotter. Due to the ease of cultivation and the productivity of the plant, many home gardeners pickle these whole or sliced in rings.
The chile "heat" of the Hungarian Yellow Wax Pepper typically ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 on the Scoville scale.
